How to Pull off the Double Denim Look
We all know denim is a wardrobe staple and it’s practically a fall constant. I mean what would fall be like with no denim.
Double denim is one trend I’ve grown to love and I find it to be a practical and stylish outfit. On the other hand, some people feel it can be quite tricky to pull off, so I’ve got some simple tips to have in mind when going for the double denim look.
When it comes to double denim, the fit is very important. The jacket should be fitted and short enough so it rests on your hips. You want to make sure it’s done in either of these variations:
1) A fitted denim jacket/top with a pair of fitted jeans. OR
2) A loose denim jacket/top with fitted jeans OR
3) A fitted denim jacket/top with loose jeans.
I personally prefer the first variation, although I’ve got a lot of love for loose fit jeans like the boyfriend and mom jeans.
Once you’ve mastered the fit perfectly you can then move onto the colour. Try to create a little contrast with the shades like I did in these photos. I made sure the jacket was a bit darker than the jeans so it doesn’t come off as boring. You can also make the jacket lighter and bottom darker. It’s perfect either way.
You can never go wrong with dark blue denim. It’s always been my favourite shade in terms of denim.
Lastly, play around with the textures especially if the shades are close. You want to stick with a heavy jacket and lighter jeans or vice versa. You can also make it even more fun by adding some denim with patch work, studs, rhinestones or shimmer as seen in the photos.
I like to button/zip my jacket half way or just a few buttons up, to create an off shoulder look, as it gives off some extra sass. Sadly it’s winter, meaning it’s too cold for that, hence why I wore a little crop top inside. Double denim is cool in so many ways, as you can change up how you wear the top or jacket. For example, besides the way I’ve worn mine in these photos, you could tie it round your waist or let it rest on your shoulders or even zip it all the way down or leave all the buttons undone.
Both the jacket and jeans are from Reserved. It was my first time shopping there, as it’s new in London and they opened their debut store late last year. I can honestly say their clothes are trendy and very affordable and their fitting rooms are pretty cool. I’ll definitely be shopping there every now and then. I also like that the jeans have a shimmery finish. It makes the outfit pop even more. I styled mine with the classic bum bag and a red beret to add a pop of colour. I’m definitely loving the beret trend now.
I also paired it with a pair of black stiletto boots, black sunglasses and some light jewellery. I was sent this lovely dangle choker from a jewellery brand called Heleecus. The jewellery is all handcrafted and I love the detailing with the cowrie shells and how the pendant is made with Ankara. It was such a perfect choice for this denim look. Y’all know how much I love Ankara 😉
P.S I’ll be doing some giveaways this week. So look out for my posts on Instagram so you don’t miss out on the fun.
